I’ve been on the lookout for a new highlighter in a stick formula for a while now, as I’ve been wanting something with a little more dewiness rather than just the shimmer effect you get with some powder highlighters.
I still love powder highlighters, but as the weathers getting a little warmer (or should be!) I wanted a more dewy, glowy and shimmery effect altogether from one product, and stick highlighters tend to create that kind of look being a cream formula.
I had seen some great reviews of this online and was really intrigued to try it seeing as it looked like a great dupe for Benefit Watt’s Up! highlighter.
I’ve always wanted to try that too, but I ended up going for the No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter as the reviews swayed me and it’s such a reasonable price at £9.95. I had a No7 voucher too so actually only paid £6.95 for it which is amazing value for the size of the product!
I love quite an obvious effect with highlighters and hate it when you can’t even notice you have any on after wearing it for a while, so I was hoping that the shimmer in this would be very apparent and catch the light well rather than just a subtle effect — and I wasn’t disappointed!
It says it gives a radiant glow with a subtle shimmer finish and I completely agree — it gives a gorgeous dewy glow as I had hoped — but I actually think it provides more than just a subtle shimmer and I was pleasantly surprised with that, as I wanted it to be quite obvious I had highlighter on!
I’m not sure if it’s because I have quite a pale skin tone that it really shows up on me, but I’m pleased that I could really see the effect, because, as most powder highlighters just give a shimmer as opposed to a glow, I really wanted to use this for creating a glow and shimmer and it does the job perfectly!
Don’t get me wrong, when I say ‘glow’ I don’t mean that it leaves you with a shiny face, but it just gives the right amount to leave a really radiant, healthy, soft-focus effect on the skin — beautiful!
It’s also shimmery but definitely not glittery — which is sometimes the case with highlighters — but this gives a gorgeous pearly shimmer which, in my opinion, is like a peachy-pink-champagne kind of colour and it’s just stunning!
The packaging is great; being a twist up stick makes it really convenient to use and the rounded tip is perfect for sweeping across parts of your face, distributing a really even blend with just the right amount of colour.
It almost looks too good to use and I really didn’t want to ruin that lovely shine it has when it’s brand new! It glides beautifully across the skin, feeling lovely and smooth and doesn’t drag or ‘cake’ on the skin over make-up.
It’s an absolute dream to blend and I sweep it across my cheekbones, forehead and brow bones then gently blend it out with my fingers. You really don’t need to be rubbing it in as that would remove the product rather than apply it, so just gently tap and sweep to blend it out evenly.
Theres actually a great video tutorial on the Boots website you can watch here, which will give you some tips on how to apply it after contouring.
To be honest, it blends so effortlessly that you really don’t need to do much at all for it to look flawlessly even, that’s why I recommend light strokes as opposed to rubbing it in.
I use it sparingly down the centre of my nose and also a little on my cupids bow to finish off the look and I absolutely love the overall effect! It’s instantly become my absolute new favourite highlighter product and I can’t praise it enough!
It does exactly what I wanted it to do by creating a shimmery glow and an overall dewy effect on the skin. I actually blended this out over powder foundation and with gentle sweeps it settled on the skin perfectly — as I was worried that it might look ‘cakey’ and separate over powder foundation but it didn’t do that on me at all.
I didn’t feel like I needed to reapply it throughout the day either, so I’m not sure how it would be by adding more product on the top when reapplying, but I’m sure it would be fine if you gently pat it on to just refresh it.
I actually think the staying power for this was great and I didn’t feel the need to reapply it throughout the day, as it still looked glowy and shimmery by the evening. Overall, I’m so impressed with this and it’s already become an everyday favourite in my make-up routine!
