I think it’s safe to say I’m a huge fan of Urban Decay eyeshadows! I first became obsessed with their eyeshadows when I bought my first Urban Decay palette, Naked 2, and ever since then I’ve been addicted to their palettes and steadily built my collection!
I also have Naked Basics which is not pictured because it’s a bit too used now and two other smaller palettes from a few years ago which I still like but aren’t my favourites so haven’t been included in this post.
I probably don’t need all those other palettes, but I just love their eyeshadows so much that I probably bought a few unnecessary ones along the way!
But these 5 are my absolute favourites that I love for different reasons! I’ll be talking about what I love about each palette — so I won’t go into loads of detail about each particular shade — and instead I’ll just be picking my favourite shades in each palette.
First up are my Naked palettes. I bought Naked 2 first as I was drawn to the fact that it was a cool-toned palette with a mixture of silver-greys and coppers and contains a jet black. It’s perfect for me as I love dark, smokey eyes and especially silver and greyish tones.
My favourite shades in the palette are Busted, Verve, Pistol and Booty Call. I love Bootycall as a highlighter being a shimmery peachy-beige; I use Verve — a lovely silver-grey shimmer — in the inner corners of my eyes as I just think it really finishes off my eye make-up and opens up my eyes; Pistol is a unique grey-brown shimmer and I love this for a metallic smokey-eye look, and lastly, Busted; one of my favourite brown shimmer eyeshadows which is deeply pigmented and really complements my green eyes.
I should really use my Naked palette more, but I just have so many palettes that I forget to use some of them and I’m making a new promise to myself to experiment with different colours more and choose ones that I don’t usually go for instead of my ‘fail-safe’ colours! My favourites in this are Hustle, Gunmetal and Darkhorse.
Hustle is a plum-brown shimmer and I just love brown shimmer eyeshadows; Darkhorse is a kind of bronze-brown and another shade that complements green eyes, and finally, Gunmetal; a stunning metallic blue-grey shade and when I bought this palette I was initially attracted to it for containing this shade.
I love Naked 3 and have talked about this palette quite a lot before, especially my love for it as a holiday palette as it just contains the most beautiful summer shades.
My favourites in this are Blackheart, Mugshot and Darkside. Blackheart is a really unique black-matte with red sparkles; Darkside is a deep taupe shade and makes a really smouldering smokey eye teamed with Blackheart, and Mugshot; a metallic taupe shimmer with great colour pay-off and I love this as a wash off colour all over my lids as it’s just really shimmery and stands out on its own.
Vice 2 is probably my least used palette and I don’t know why because it’s full of the most stunning shades! I think it’s just due to the fact that it’s not one of the palettes that I just grab quickly to do my make-up with and it’s more of one I’d select if I was going on a night out. So, I’m going to make more of an effort to us this as I’m really missing out on all these stunning shades!
My favourites in this are Darailed, Smokeout and Shellshock. Smokeout is a dark taupe-black satin and is the perfect shade for a really smouldering smokey eye look; Shellshock is a stunning, vibrant, metallic-silver and is super pigmented and great for the inner corners of the eyes for making them really stand out — but less is more with this as it’s really intensely pigmented, and finally, Derailed; a lovely light greyish taupe-brown shimmer which is really intense with great colour payoff.
I love the Smoked palette for containing my two favourite grey eyeshadows; Mushroom and Asphalt and I love teaming these two shades together! Mushroom is a really intense grey-taupe and really complements Asphalt which is a dark grey with a little shimmer. These two together make one of my favourite go-to eye looks and with a little black it creates a stunning smokey eye.
I also love Backdoor in this palette which is a brown-grey and again, really pigmented. I love that this palette has a great variety of shades containing blues, greys, browns and lighter shades to highlight with along with black to create depth and the combination of smokey eye looks with this are endless!
So it’s one of those palettes that you can grab for weekends away and trust that you can create a variety of evening looks with as well as containing some neutral and lighter shades for day time looks.
Overall, if I had to choose my favourite palettes I think it would have to be Naked 2 and the Smoked palette, as I’m a big fan of smokey eye looks and these contain varieties of silver-greys and deep browns which are my favourite shades for eyeshadows.
