My Top 3 Make-up Setting Products

I love using a setting product as a finishing touch to my make-up and have a few products that I use for different occasions or purposes.

I feel better when I’ve spritzed my face with a setting spray or dusted over some setting powder and feel safe knowing that my make-up is going to last all day without caking/smudging, getting shiny or leaving mascara marks under my eyes.

So I have a few products that are my absolute favourites for setting make-up and all have a different purpose for what I use them for.

First up is the product I use for setting concealer under my eyes; the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder. It’s a brightening powder which sets your concealer and brightens under and around the eye area. I use a fluffy eye brush to dust it under each eye over my concealer to set it and also a little around my eyes and brow bone for added brightening.

It’s a very fine powder so you only need a tiny amount – less is definitely more with this! The colour I use (shade 1) is a transparent white colour, which is perfect for my pale skin tone and it brightens as well as sets concealer, and as it’s a micro-fine powder, it doesn’t settle into any lines.

I really notice a difference when I use this, as it really helps to brighten the overall eye area so it looks radiant and ‘awake’ but also sets concealer perfectly, so I don’t have to worry about it wearing off and having to reapply concealer throughout the day.

bareMinerals Tinted Mineral Veil

I love bareMinerals Mineral Veil finishing powder as an all–over finishing product. It has lots of benefits which help to brighten the complexion, blur and soften fine lines, minimise pores, absorb oil and prolong foundation wear; giving a soft ‘airbrushed’ finish to the skin.

It really does work amazingly at softening fine lines and giving an all–over flawless, airbrushed quality to the skin.

I use to have the Original which has a translucent finish, but when that ran out I tried the Tinted version which just gives a very subtle hint of natural colour and warmth to the skin, which really helps to brighten my complexion up a little.

Urban Decay All Nighter Long–Lasting Make-up Setting Spray

For nights out I use the Urban Decay All Nighter Long–Lasting Make-up Setting Spray. This spray is literally amazing at setting make-up for a night out, so you don’t have to worry about your make-up sliding off, smudging throughout the night, fading, or mascara transferring around the eyes. It’s a weightless spray which you don’t even feel once it’s on as it doesn’t feel sticky or tight on the skin and sets instantly.

It’s particularly great for when you’ve done a full face of make-up for a night out which you wouldn’t normally wear during the day, as it really sets it and prevents colour from fading — especially with your eye make-up — so your make-up stays looking vibrant and fresh all night as though you’ve just done it!

    • The Look List says:

Some setting powders have done that to me in the past too, but the bareMinerals mineral veil is so lightweight and such a fine powder that it doesn’t cake or settle in any lines on me at all! It’s the only all-over face powder I use now to take away shine and prolong my foundation. But for nights out I love UD setting spray, I agree it’s just such a good product isn’t it! x
